The digital workforce in the North of England has grown by 28% since 2011*; an amazing statistic when you compare it to the mere 3.1% growth of the region’s non-digital workforce. And the sector is growing at a rate 10 times other industries.
Stats like this – which headlined Tech North’s recently published Digital Powerhouse report – show the digital economy in the North is going in the right direction – but there’s still loads to be done.
The same report outlines just how amazing further investment in the North’s digi-economy could be – raising our tech talent’s productivity in line with the UK national average would create an extra £5.7bn in GVA.
One of our directors, Andy Lord’s been working hard with businesses in the region to ensure us Digital Gurus are doing our bit to contribute to narrowing the skills gap:
We’re bridging the gap between businesses, candidates and the academic world. It’s the best way of addressing the challenges in the market right now. It also echoes the views of the experts at Tech North – one of the report recommendations was to encourage outreach teams of Northern universities to join forces to present a unified offer to local tech businesses – if we can ensure the businesses have a unified presence too, we’ll simplify the process.
