Bristol’s reputation as a Digital and Tech startup powerhouse continues to grow, with the opening of Runway East Bristol.
Runway East Bristol will open on Victoria Street, 7 minutes from Temple Meads Station and will offer dedicated desks, private offices and 9,000 feet of breakout space for “entrepreneurs, innovators, dreamers and doers from all corners of the city to build Bristol’s best space for start-ups to work, meet, think and (occasionally) drink together.”
Tech Nation reports that Bristol is “the UK’s #1 Digital Tech productivity powerhouse at £320k turnover per worker”, with 226 Digital Tech start-up births (2016) and 26,999 Digital Tech jobs (2017).
We asked Jacob Fisher, Marketing Lead for Runway East to explain the motivation behind bringing a new startup space to Bristol:
We wanted to come to Bristol because our vision is a world in which no start-up team grows alone, and when we visited Bristol we heard from local entrepreneurs and startup leaders that there wasn’t much space available for larger start-up teams to be able to co-work in.
Bristol already has a thriving and collaborative startup community, boosted by the incredible work of accelerators like The Engine Shed and the Bristol VR Lab, who’ve created a really solid base of support for early-stage entrepreneurs and start-ups. Where our expertise lies is in helping slightly larger teams grow and providing them with the community and support they need, so to us coming to Bristol was a no-brainer – we want to be a complementary part of any startup ecosystem we become part of, and we thought that what we provide was really unique and was needed by entrepreneurs.
The local startup community has been incredibly supportive, there are too many people to name but we are super passionate about startups and people in Bristol are too, so it feels like a match made in heaven in that respect. We’ve already had more people than we expected join our new location, and we’re now really excited to be in the stage where we’re planning events to support our new members and the wider Bristol start-up ecosystem.
We’re finalising the official launch but it should be in October. Our first members have actually moved in already and you can read about it here.

As far as Digital and Tech are concerned, Bristol has seen an incredible upturn in recent years. The city is blessed with considerable investment from the Universities who are investing in start-up businesses and it is important to consider this is the number one city in the world for research into the Smart/Future Cities agenda, 5G and IOT.
We are continually welcoming innovative Tech and Digital businesses into Bristol and it has attracted a lot of attention from talent across the whole of the UK as the place to be for thought-leading Tech and Digital talent. I for one feel it is a great time to be here and the sector will continue to go from strength to strength!
